SideWalk Chalk is people. People with hearts as big as music. Writers and artists and coffee-shop baristas, all looking to be a part of something bigger than themselves and willing to spend a small part of their time, talents, and money investing in Charleston’s schools and students.

SideWalk Chalk believes that it’s not o.k. for a child’s test scores to be determined by the neighborhood they live in. We believe every child has a voice. We believe it enough to do something about it.

Every week we go into elementary and middle schools in the Charleston County School District and help students discover their voice. We work our idealistic you-know-whats off to help those students meet state and national ELA standards.

Every summer we paint pictures, take photographs, and learn to dance.

SideWalk Chalk is high-fives and silly stories. With enough of both of them, they turn into a college entrance exam, a job application, a speech that shakes the world.
